• Teaching and Learning

        •

At ASA your child has the opportunity to experience a broad range of subjects. Some of these may be taught as a class, in ability groups, or in mixed ability groups. Sometimes we teach through projects or topics, which enables us to teach elements of a number of subjects at once. At other times, just one subject may be taught e.g. Mathematics or Science.

We believe in the importance of consistency and in the Kindergarten and Lower Elementary classes a Homeroom Teacher delivers the core subjects delivered in English (English,  Math, Social Studies, Science and Values). This fosters a strong connection between the student and teacher and inter-curricula work and connections.

Above all, the style and strategies for teaching complement the aim of the school, and that is to achieve a quality of learning for each child.

          Assessing Progress

ASA recognizes that it is essential to identify students' strengths and areas for improvement.  The MAP assessments are computer based and are based upon the US common core standards and we use them from KG2 through to Elementary grades. MAP® Growth™ measures what students know and informs what they’re ready to learn next. Assessment reports help teachers teach, students learn, and administrators lead.

With a special focus on the unique developmental needs of the youngest learners, MAP Growth K-2 assessment identifies a child’s starting point as early as possible and tracks growth over time. MAP Growth K-2 also provides pre-literacy and number skills screening measures for early identification and intervention, and specific skill measures that can be used to assess mastery.
